| The
National Institute of Social Defence was originally set up as the
Central Bureau of Correctional Services in 1961, under the Ministry
of Home Affair, in pursuance of the recommendation emerging at various
national forums. The Bureau was transferred to the then Department
of Social Security in 1964, and since 1975 the Institute is a subordinate
office under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. National
Institute of Social Defence is now an Autonomous Body vide Govt.
of India Notification No. 10-3/2000-SD. Vol.II dated 15th July,
2002 and registered under the Societies Act XXI of 1860 with National
Capital of Union Territory. |

| The NCDAP was setup in
NISD in September 1988, in lieu of the existing Bureau of Drug Abuse
Prevention to strengthen and to provide technical inputs to the
Govt. of India’s programs on Drug Abuse Prevention. The main
objective is to raise the competency standards of the functionaries
working in De-addiction centres

to achieve this by facilitating a clear understanding of Child Rights.
As defined by Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), NICP
intends to create awareness among the people about child’s
Right to Survival, Right to Protection, Right to Development and
Right to Participation |
